  • “Why does my mind feel foggy and sluggish at work?”
  • “Is there a way to fix this without a CPAP machine?”
  • “Why do I feel short of breath and panicked at night?”
  • “Why do I constantly fight the urge to nap throughout the day?”

Why Oral Appliance
therapy is different

1. Relief Without the Setup
No masks. No machines. Oral appliances are lightweight, portable, and easy to wear. They gently shift your jaw to open up your airway.

Slip it in before bed, and wake up feeling human again.

2. Natural Breathing, Restored
Unlike CPAP machines that manage symptoms, oral appliances work at the source by aligning your jaw structure to naturally improve your ability to breathe without struggling.

3. Feel the Difference Immediately
Patients report waking up with a clear head and steady energy for the first time in years. Snoring also goes down—or completely goes away.

You can travel, sleep next to your partner, and wake up with enthusiasm without feeling tethered to any medical equipment.

4. Regain Your Energy
Poor sleep increases stress on your heart and brain, which makes you feel even more tired. Once you start receiving enough sleep to recharge every night, you no longer get bogged down by unmanageable hypertension, diabetes, and cardiac issues.

You will notice you once again have the steam to do things you thought you’d lost forever.

We Take an
Airway-First Approach

Your airway is the path that carries oxygen to your lungs, and even the smallest obstruction can create serious problems in your breathing space.

Led by a qualified dental sleep practitioner, Dr. Stacy Johnson, DDSMS, we look at how your jaw, tongue, and throat interact when you sleep. Is your tongue blocking your airway when you lie down? Are your jaw and teeth position making it harder for air to flow?

After a thorough physical screening, we design a treatment tailored to your unique oral anatomy. Since no two patients are the same, neither are the oral appliances we provide. These are similar to mouthguards.

The purpose of your sleep apnea device will be to either gently reposition your jaw or keep your tongue from collapsing into your airway.

If your jaw alignment needs to be corrected or you have a slimmer-than-normal airway, we will address that as well to support your whole health.

We Work Hand-in-Hand
with Your Doctor

Sleep apnea almost never exists in a vacuum.

It is often connected to other health conditions, and we make sure your treatment addresses the full picture. We collaborate closely with your primary care provider (PCP), as well as other relevant specialists such as an ENT, cardiologist, or pulmonologist, so nothing is missed.

If you have uncontrolled hypertension and your blood pressure spikes at night, we communicate with your PCP to adjust your medication accordingly. Similarly, if you are managing diabetes, we track how better sleep impacts your blood sugar levels to help out your endocrinologist.

Many clinics stop after they give you the appliance. We go further. After fitting your appliance, we measure your sleep outcomes using sleep studies at every step of the treatment.

If your appliance needs a slight tweak to improve airflow, we will do that and recheck your sleep data.

We Work with Your Insurance to Make Care Affordable

We want your path to better sleep to be as accessible as possible.  That’s why we accept Medicare and also work with out-of-network medical insurance billing.  Even if we are not in-network with your insurance company, most insurance plans still cover a significant portion of out-of-network services.

We can file the claim on your behalf and ensure you won’t have to pay the full amount out of pocket.
Our team is here to answer all your questions, help you check your benefits—and maximize the ones you are eligible for.
You do not have to worry about a thing, we take care of it all! Reach out to us today if you need help understanding your coverage and what to expect.

Dr. Stacy Johnson, DDSMS, understands the challenges of this sleep disorder both professionally and personally.

With more than 35 years of experience, he is one of the most trusted providers of oral appliance therapy in the Greenwood area and beyond. End the Cycle of Exhaustion and
Rediscover Your Sharpest Self

Brain fog, forgetfulness, and a sense of mental numbness are common complaints for people with untreated obstructive sleep apnea.

That heavy, sluggish feeling that doesn’t go away, no matter how much coffee you drink or how many breaks you take? It’s the result of sleep deprivation caused by poor breathing at night.
Your brain fails to receive the critical supply of oxygen it needs when sleep apnea disrupts your breathing.

Over time, this takes a toll on all the critical cognitive processes like your memory, reaction time and emotional regulation. Research shows that those with sleep apnea are 2.5 times more likely to cause a car crash compared to others.

You might be in more danger than you think if you have extreme daytime sleepiness (EDS), you are getting less than five hours of sleep, or you are relying on sleeping pills.

Your very ability to make decisions in your day-to-day life is at stake.

The oral appliance treatment options at Sleep Better Healthcare allow you to achieve deep sleep when vital brain repair occurs.

If you can’t tolerate CPAP therapy for any reason, that’s okay—your path to get rid of apnea episodes is as easy as popping in a mouthguard before you go to bed.

Apnea Treatment

If you are worried that airway-focused dentistry means pulling a tooth out to remedy an underdeveloped jaw or create more breathing room, rest easy.  It’s an outdated technique that we find unacceptable. There is no evidence connecting tooth extraction and sleep apnea. Our treatments are strictly non-extraction, non-invasive, and patient-friendly.

We recommend orthodontic options for our patients that include a combination of removable expanders and clear aligners or just a clear aligner by itself; it all depends on your needs.  Our goal is to build a proper foundation and optimize your airway for your best health ever.

Here are some of the most common benefits our patients report within two to three weeks of starting treatment:

  • They feel sharper.
  • They can think faster.
  • They remember details better, such as names, numbers, and addresses.
  • They feel more connected with their partner—sharing a quiet bedroom again makes a huge difference.
  • They can laugh, play, and engage with their kids or grandkids more.
  • They have clearer skin and brighter eyes.
  • They feel more optimistic about life, thanks to a transformed body and mindset.
